This unit provides a foundation for the study of systems from both theoretical and applied thermodynamic perspectives. Students study pure thermodynamics and thermodynamics of ions in solution as well as an elective module. Students are able to choose between either high temperature (metallurgical) thermodynamics or statistical mechanics (physical thermodynamics), depending on their course of study. Examples are drawn from a wide range of applications relevant to chemistry, extractive metallurgy and physics. -- Course Website
