This unit gives students the research skills and critical understandings to help them complete an original research project at graduate level. The unit reviews the use and evaluation of a range of research 'tools' including the use of research databases, the collection and evaluation of data, and the evaluation of argumentative forms and structures. Building on this, the unit locates research within specific cultural and political contexts and investigates the way different methodological orientations, such as Marxism, structuralism or liberalism, differently drive the research process.
