This unit aims to provide students with the opportunity to study the works of particular authors in depth. It may focus on a single author, by selecting several of their works, or it may locate a particular author among his or her most significant collaborators or contemporaries, depending on the approach adopted by staff available to teach it. The unit also invites reflection on the material and institutional bases of authorship, as well as enabling the historical contextualisation of authors and their work.
