This unit examines critical issues of power relations in contemporary workplaces, industries and societies. Topics include corporate power and the role of the nation-state; the industrial sociology of workplace conflict; authority and bureaucracy, changes to work and the labour process in post-industrial society; gender and employment relations; globalising labour markets; and management, power and resistance. Films and documentaries elaborate key themes and students explore topics through independent but supervised research. -- Course Website
