This unit is an introduction to linguistics and applied linguistics, with an emphasis on applications to educational contexts, and is designed primarily for language teachers [Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Languages Other Than English (LOTE)]. Students learn the fundamental principles of phonology, grammar, semantics, pragmatics and sociolinguistics as a prerequisite to applying them in their field of language learning. The unit is also recommended for teachers of any subject who have a strong interest in language and a desire to understand the use of language in the classroom. -- Course Website
