Collection and interpretation of geological data in the field are fundamental skills for a professional geologist. This unit strengthens and expands field skills through laboratory work and a seven-day field trip to the Eastern Goldfields. The field trip challenges students to collect high quality field data with which to interpret the geological history of this complexly deformed terrane and how geological processes and events have controlled the formation of mineral deposits (nickel and gold) in the area. Mapping is undertaken using modern digital mapping techniques. -- Course Website
