This unit gives students an insight into one of the most sought after roles in journalism: that of the correspondent. Correspondents typically take one of a number of forms: foreign, political, economic or business. The unit focuses on the role of the foreign correspondent and the political correspondent. It looks at the challenges correspondents face reporting on disasters and wars, gauging the pulse of the political setting from a press gallery and operating often as one person required to coordinate various duties without easy support from the main arm of the media organisation.
