These include translation (seen and unseen), elementary prosody, familiarity with contemporary trends in Roman literary criticism and historical interpretation of the set authors, and independent research skills.

Classes alternate group translation and literary and historical analysis based on student readings of the prescribed primary and secondary literature. From time to time students are set practice commentary exercises (gobbets) and unseen translations in preparation... -- Course Website
