This unit covers the application of geotechnical principles to containment structures, particularly clay-lined disposal sites and tailings storage facilities (slope stability, seepage control, construction on soft ground, compaction technology, clay–leachate interaction, construction methodology, monitoring); contaminant transport in groundwater (advective-dispersive transport, retardation and attenuation of solutes, flow and mass transport in the vadose zone); introduction to site remediation and risk management; and general geotechnical issues associated with transportation infrastructure. -- Course Website
