This unit covers (1) an introduction to reaction kinetics and mechanisms including an analysis of rate data and formulation of rate equations and reaction mechanisms; (2) the fundamentals of ideal reactor behaviour—design of batch, completely mixed and plug flow reactors for single and multiple reactions; and (3) multiple and recycle reactors—temperature and pressure effects, adiabatic and non-adiabatic reactions, simultaneous mass and energy balances in the design of homogeneous reactions, residence time distribution, modelling of non-ideal reactor behaviour, mass transfer control heterogenous reaction, and the shrinking core model. -- Course Website
