This is an introductory unit that explores the molecular basis of life within the context of the cell. The content of the unit is divided into four major themes: (1) DNA, RNA and protein synthesis; (2) the regulation of the gene activity in prokaryotes and eukaryotes; (3) the molecular and structural biochemistry of proteins; and (4) the catalysis of biological reactions by enzymes. Theoretical knowledge is linked to practical applications in lectures, with laboratory classes introducing students to the practical skills required in modern biochemistry and molecular biology laboratories. -- Course Website

Instructor: Associate Professor Peter Arthur
