This unit is intended to be taken by students who began Honours mid year and are in their second semester of honours study. It is designed to provide insights into the research process, both in general and with a particular focus on the problems associated with researching Asia. It covers topics including methodology, fieldwork, archival research, ethical issues and positionality. It also deals with using languages other than English in research. In order to accommodate a wide range of interests and research topics, the unit is deliberately broad in scope.
