This unit is designed to provide students in the first semester of their honours year with insights into the research process, both in general and with a particular focus on the problems associated with researching Asia. It covers topics including methodology, fieldwork, archival research, ethical issues and positionality. It also deals with using languages other than English in research. In order to accommodate a wide range of interests and research topics, the unit is deliberately broad in scope.
