This unit introduces students to issues relating to in situ conservation and methods of monitoring and sampling sites. It covers the ocean environment, the various materials common to maritime archaeological sites, on-site conservation, conservation surveys, and in situ preservation. This is achieved through lectures, applied reading of key literature, practical classes, demonstration of techniques and group discussion. Students demonstrate their applied understanding of these topics through participation in tutorials, museum-based practical exercises and an examination. -- Course Website
