This unit serves as a vehicle for understanding cities as they have been traditionally constituted and their modes of transformation. Recognising the city as the primary site for architectural speculation, imaginative projection and realisation are antithetical to both conventional statistical and quantitative analysis typical of contemporary 'urban design'. The unit includes a series of lectures and seminars exploring current issues confronting the city as a symbolic and concrete site for architecture, followed by individual creative work. -- Course Website
