This unit comprises a series of lectures and research seminars which introduce the ideas of dense environments and urban models. It looks at models of densification as a way of reducing urban sprawl in cities. Planning strategies from around the world are used to illustrate dense urban fabrics. The unit investigates and introduces a critical analysis of pre-existing urban models then focuses on typical architectural typologies that fit within the urban model and looks deeper into residential and mixed-use buildings in a dense urban context.
