This unit develops experience in understanding the way well-known works of architecture are constructed. Students initially document and then physically construct details of a number of chosen works at scale and develop an understanding of the location of architectural meaning through the importance of edge, junction, material and time to each work. Focusing on the theoretical understanding of how important details of construction can be to meaning, students explore the way a number of pieces of architecture were originally constructed, the materials and details involved and replicate these aspects in a maximum 1m3 volume at full scale.
