In histology the study begins with a focus on the mammalian cell and histological patterns and continues through the primary tissues of the body—epithelium, connective tissue including skeletal tissues, muscle and nervous tissue. The histological basis of the body's defence system is also explored. While histological organisation of the organs and systems is part of a semester two unit devoted to histology, this unit studies functional integration of the primary tissues.
