This course consists of two related modules. The first is an introduction to the history of urban settlements and their planning, focusing on critical time periods and important innovations. The study of settlement history will be built around the interplay of environment, technology, ideas and institutions. The second module then builds on the first to concentrate on present-day institutional arrangements that impact on the planning and development of urban areas in Australia and overseas. -- Course Website
