Occupational hygiene uses a scientific approach to the identification, assessment and control of chemical, physical and biological factors which may adversely affect workers. Toxicology is the science of poisons and included the detection of poisons, the effect of poisons on biological systems, dose response relationships and the elmination and detoxification of poisons by the biological systems. This course will introduce students to the basic principles of toxicology and occupational hygiene and examine the workplace exposure to selected contaminants.
