This course provides an introduction to chemistry as a quantitative science. Chemistry concepts will be developed through examples drawn from the fields of Pharmacy, Medicine, and Dentistry to meet their professional accreditation requirements. Core topics include kinetic theory, energetics and spontaneity of chemical reactions, chemical equilibrium, acid base chemistry, solubility and the essential principles of chemical kinetics and redox chemistry in biological systems. Transition metal chemistry in the context of metalloenzymes and radiochemistry will also be addressed. The course is intended for those students who are enrolled in Medicine, Pharmacy or Dentistry.
