This course considers case studies in modern fashion from the perspectives of key theorists in the field. Various interpretative frameworks, including sociological, anthropological, semiotic and post-modern, will be used to gain purchase on the complex relationships between fashion, culture and the body, from the late 19th century to the present day. The course will draw on theoretical writings of Spencer, Veblen, Simmel, Kroeber, Flugel, Laver, Barthes and Baudrillard to stimulate original and meaningful contributions to the discipline of fashion history and theory.<br/>NOTE: Course offering may be cancelled unless a minimum of 20 students enrol -- Course Website
