This subject was formerly called Strategic Plan Making. Strategic planning is a task undertaken in a range of professional contexts, but lies at the heart of plan making within urban planning. In a studio environment, this subject introduces the student to the multiple forces (e.g. demographic and economic) driving city growth, the analytical skills (e.g. GIS mapping) for strategic analysis, and the strategic planning responses at the metropolitan and local scales. The course begins with a hands-on analysis of the strategic planning processes and outcomes.
