This unit aims to prepare students to become effective and knowledgeable social education teachers. Students will be able to critically explore different approaches to teaching social education in Years 7 to 12. The unit will involve an examination of various strategies, resources, activities and forms of assessment for teaching different areas of the social education curriculum, including civics and citizenship, history, geography, politics, international studies, sociology, cultural studies, studies of Asia, and sustainability that are taught in diverse ways in schools. Students will also critically examine relevant state and national curriculum documents. -- Course Website

Prerequisites: A minor sequence in a social science area, eg anthropology, cultural studies, economics, environmental studies, geography, history , legal studies, philosophy, politics, sociology, together with a part in another of these areas of study.
