This unit is designed to prepare specialist teachers of media studies. It will introduce students to current debates and trends in media education. Students critically explore the different justifications for teaching media studies in secondary schools, as well as the benefits and negatives of different approaches to teaching media studies (e.g. a more vocational, 'hands on' appproach, as opposed to a more theoretical approach). Students will examine different approaches to teaching key media studies topics, including representation, narrative, new media and media production.
