This unit works with selected texts to examine the aesthetic issues involved in the creation of a performance. The emphasis in the workshops will be on the way we understand texts and contexts, how we recognise style, and creative parameters of work or performance. We will examine issues such as the rationale for attempting to recreate authentic performance styles for historical works, issues of audience involvement, communication of meanings in the design and presentation of extracts or short pieces from longer works. There is a practical component to this work. -- Course Website
