This unit is an introduction to the main policies and practices in music education. It examines Australian curricula and the role of the music teacher in the advocacy of music education. Focusing on classroom and instrumental teaching, the unit examines and analyses various approaches to teaching improvisation and more specifically jazz and world music as well as composition. Attention is paid to music education in select overseas countries to provide a comparison to the Australian context. -- Course Website
