Awareness of the fundamental properties of a given text is essential for effective, professional translating and interpreting. This unit builds on and draws on principles from a range of discourse and text analysis approaches to examine the nature of text and of text analysis strategies essential to effective, professional translation and interpreting. Analytical approaches include: discourse analysis, conversation analysis, and systemic functional grammar.
