This unit provides an understanding of human neuroanatomy and physiology with an emphasis on the systems that mediate swallowing, speech, and language. The unit begins with an exploration of the brain, discussing the development of the central and peripheral nervous systems, the neuroanatomy of the mature system, and the behavioural manifestations of brain damage. The structure and functions of the human body are also studied in order to enhance speech pathology students' understanding of normal and abnormal/disordered functioning of the human body. -- Course Website
