This unit provides an introduction to the theory and practice of clinical and counselling psychology for a variety of emotional problems in both children and adults. There is a balanced focus on theory, research and practice throughout the course. Major theoretical frameworks used in clinical and counselling psychology will be reviewed using interesting case studies. A practical component involving role-plays and expert feedback in a small group format will be used to practice basic therapeutic strategies. Students will acquire both an understanding of theories of emotional distress as well as basic counselling skills and problem solving techniques to use with clients. -- Course Website
