This unit will focus on theoretical underpinnings and practice in working with couples who are experiencing problems. Students will learn to conceptualise couple problems from a range of systemic and psychodynamic theories. In addition to managing couple therapy sessions, students will be able to practice skills drawn from these theories. Special topics associated with couple therapy will be presented, along with ways of handling these situations. Special emphasis will be placed on separation and divorce, working with couples where there has been an affair, issues of love and intimacy, domestic violence, and working with gay and lesbian relationships. -- Course Website
