Globalisation has profoundly influenced many aspects of our lives. It is not just a technological and economic process, which has impacted on what we consume and how we work, but also a political and cultural process, which has transformed the way we relate to ourselves, to others and the environment. Many of the conceptions that were taken for granted not long ago, notably about the nature and scope of political action, ethical duties, economic possibilities, or cultural identity, have been radically challenged by the advance of globalisation.
