This unit introduces and examines different musical practices from a diverse range of music cultures in which improvisation plays a fundamental role. Classes consist of a 2 hour weekly seminar. The unit considers the many ways that traditional, contemporary and fusion music is thought about, performed and transmitted around the world. The seminars concentrate on practical exercises and strategies in improvisation from South Asia, South America, and West Asia. -- Course Website
