This unit examines changing visions of the nature and purpose of world history. Students will look at how historians have approached telling their various world histories, and how world history has been taught in the institutional context. Topics include the nature of world history and world historical writing, Euro and American-centrism, globalisation, word systems theory, 'big history', and gendered and environmental approaches to world history. -- Course Website
