This unit explores the interactions between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians from the 1750s to the present. It provides students with background in the nineteenth century context before moving through some of the key developments of the twentieth century. Included here is empire, environment and race; land; political resistance; the impact of Christianity and the missions; the role of the law; protection; assimilation; labour and sexual relations; anthropology; ideology; self-determination; rights; and sovereignty.
