This unit evaluates approaches to water and marine biodiversity governance and the efforts of the global community with respect to enforcement and compliance. The first half of this unit examines the principles and laws relating to the sustainable use and management of freshwater living resources. The second half examines law and policy relating to the protection and preservation of marine living resources. Specific attention will be given to fisheries management, species-based approaches and habitat. Cross-cutting issues will be explored including the challenge of integrating conservation and utilisation of freshwater and marine biodiversity. -- Course Website

Prerequisites: Admission to MEnvLaw or PGDipEnvLaw or PGCertEnvLaw or MIntEnvLaw or PGDipIntEnvLaw or PGCertIntEnvLaw or LLM in (Environmental Law or International Environmental Law) or 42cp in LAW units at 400 or 500 levelĀ
