This unit provides a broad introduction to the major areas of international environmental law. The unit commences with an examination of the sources and principles of international law in relation to the environment, related non- state actors, the law -making process and issues associated with compliance and enforcement. The unit explores key conventions and soft law instruments relating to climate change, ozone depletion, biodiversity, habitat protection, hazardous waste and pollution, and sustainable development. The unit also considers contemporary debates at the intersection of trade, human rights, Indigenous peoples and the environment. -- Course Website
