This unit introduces students to the theoretical and philosophical trends underpinning early childhood pedagogy. Students will explore the historical origins of early childhood curriculum and examine the principles and practices that influence contemporary approaches to teaching and learning with young children. Students will be introduced to philosophical principles including equity, diversity, ethics and critical thinking. In addition they will examine issues of professional judgment and curriculum decision making. This unit will set the foundations for further studies in ECST220 and ECST330. -- Course Website
