This unit focuses on both the reading and the practice of writing poetry, and is suitable for students with some experience in writing who are interested in developing their knowledge and practice of poetry. Students read a broad range of modern and contemporary poetry, and essays on poetics and creativity, and also do a range of poetry writing activities to develop their own voice. Poetic language and prosody are studied in both formal and free verse and students are encouraged to develop their writing in a range of forms suited to their interests. Assessment is based on students' creative work and reflection, and their critical and analytical writing. -- Course Website
