This two week intensive unit provides an introduction to the ecology and taxonomy of Australian birds. The unit includes lectures, laboratory exercises, and field trips to diverse habitats. Lecture topics include: the evolutionary history and biogeography of Australian birds; bird ecology, behaviour, and anatomy; and bird survey techniques and their applications in scientific research and conservation. Field trips are used to reinforce lecture topics, to expose students to scientific research methods, and to introduce students to sight and sound techniques of bird identification. -- Course Website
