This unit examines the history of Constantinople from its foundation by Constantine the Great in the fourth century to its capture by the Ottoman Turks in the fifteenth century. It focuses on the cultural, ecclesiastical, intellectual, military, art and architectural history of the city, using literary, documentary and archaeological evidence. -- Course Website
