This unit outlines the financial markets space, identifying the types of financial instruments, the key participants of each specific financial market, the clearing and settlements systems that facilitate transactions, and the systems that store financial instruments. It reviews the history of the various markets (money, long term debt, equities, commodities, foreign exchange, derivatives and swaps) and identifies the principle types of instruments found within each market.
