After reviewing the broad historical, political and legal discourses that have shaped relations between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in some specific post-colonial contexts in Australia and other post-settler states, we investigate what may constitute Indigenous studies. In doing this we not only take account of the impact of the colonial encounter in shaping Indigenous identities, but consider the ways in which Indigenous peoples make their own identities and negotiate relations with their own Others. -- Course Website
