This course builds on students' general understanding of issues related to young people and pedagogical arrangements in the middle years. It examines important professional and pedagogical issues central to middle schooling. Current ideas on pedagogical design and arrangement in the middle years, such as integrated curriculum, authentic assessment, teaming and looping will be critically assessed. Reform initiatives and reports in the middle schooling movement in Australia and its states will also be examined.
