This course introduces students to specialist topics in biology that are relevant to conservation of biodiversity. It includes study of extinction and its causes including habitat loss, disease and alien species, addresses the nature and cause of natural rarity, examines processes of restoration ecology and reintroductions. The course also includes an appraisal of international initiatives in conservation and international agreements with implications for conservation.
