This unit includes: a detailed review of biogeography as a natural and historical science, a detailed examination of biological and environmental factors that govern the dispersal and migration capabilities of organisms; a study of key research methods and theories in biogeography; a study of plate tectonics and its effects on biotic distribution and macro-evolution; and a detailed examination of the distribution patterns and mechanisms of key groups of organisms today and in the past in the context of changing regional and global physical environments (including changing geographical and climatic conditions).
