This unit provides an experiential program in which students will acquire some of the practical and professional skills required by marine and freshwater scientists working in aquatic ecosystems. The core professional skill to be developed is that of writing a scientific research report. Practical skills development will also underpin the unit and will include scientific methodology, publication review, sampling design, data analysis and presentation, and field and laboratory instrument use. These skills will be developed during a multidisciplinary study of the factors influencing the spatial and temporal variability of zooplankton in the Hopkins River estuary. -- Course Website
