This unit introduces students to a basic understanding of the political and legal institutions in Australia, including the structure of legislation, the legal system, and the manner in which the community is regulated by legal and ethical obligations. In particular this unit introduces social work students to some of the legal and ethical issues which are likely to be encountered in social work practice. We will study such diverse areas of law as child abuse, family violence, juvenile justice, negligence, confidentiality, record keeping and the professional responsibility so important in professional life.Assessment -- Course Website
