This introductory unit explores the fundamental biological underpinning of human psychology. This includes the genetic and neurological bases of behaviour, including how these processes are influenced by various environmental factors. It explores the processes that make us human, ranging from primitive and adaptive functions, such as motivation and emotion, to higher order concepts such as intelligence. The unit explores the notion of consciousness and what it means to think, and how memory and learned experiences influence who we are and how we behave.
