The unit covers: infection prevention and control relating to the care of patients undergoing surgery including asepsis, sterilisation and disinfection, and environmental controls; the implementation and maintenance of a safe environment for patients including patient positioning, standard and additional precautions; planning for intraoperative patient care; concepts of practice within the role of the circulating and instrument nurse; and the legal and ethical issues that affect practice, including perioperative documentation, consent, and counting of accountable items. -- Course Website
